Registered Construction Detail 3 - Intermediate floor between dwellings

E7 Intermediate floor between dwellings (in blocks of flats) E7MCFF4

This is another horizontal junction for intermediate floors between dwellings where sound and fire are also important considerations. Again, a fire stop is needed to compartment the dwellings and this, as with the Party Wall Junction at Floor Level Detail, should have the same lambda value as the main cavity insulation and ensure a tight fit where it abuts.

Any penetrations through the floor should be properly fire-stopped and an appropriate acoustic barrier incorporated. Greater information regarding acoustic performance for specific floor details can be found at the Robust Details site.

Why is thermal bridging so important?

  • Registered Construction Details can enable an otherwise failing building to pass with no alteration to insulation levels or use of triple glazing or expensive renewable technologies.
  • Cost analysis shows savings as much as £1,200 on a 90m2 unit through correct specification and attention to detail.

Talk to your architect, designer or specifier about this, they can speak to the SAP assessor who can start designing out unnecessary costs. Find out more here.
