As a Building Control Officer, you'll be taking the lead to ensure areas of the borough are compliant with building control legislation. You will be customer focused and will be implementing marketing and quality initiatives to maintain our customer base and bring in new clients, recover fees and charges, as well as managing a caseload delivering a cost effective and efficient service. You'll provide detailed information on individual cases or projects for senior officers at regular case reviews, as well as getting involved in a range of exciting projects to improve our service. Alongside this, you'll have the opportunity to gain experience and undertake training with a view to achieving an appropriate professional or technical qualification within the field. You will be required to take part in the Dangerous Structures out of hours call out rota.
Ideally, you'll have a degree or HNC in building, building surveying, civil or structural engineering or a minimum of 2 years relevant experience. You'll have a good understanding of the following:
- a) Building Construction
- b) Structural engineering
- c) Fire safety in buildings
- d) Supervision of building work on site.
You'll need detailed knowledge of relevant legislation such as, the Building Act 1984 as well as the ability to prepare reports and present information in a clear and accessible manner to a range of stakeholders. We'll need you to carry out frequent site inspections so you'll need to be well organised and able to manage conflicting priorities. Alongside this, you'll work effectively within a team environment, supporting and supervising members of staff to deliver a first class service.
