To join our successful team you should be an enthusiastic Building Control Surveyor with experience of the Building Control function and determining Building Regulations applications.

At Nottingham City you will work within a defined geographical area undertaking daily site inspections. The workload will be interesting and varied giving an opportunity for personal development. Although we are looking for an experienced officer, as a team, we can still provide help and training to deal with the type of schemes that occur within a city. Additionally your workload would not include dangerous structures. You will have the opportunity to work flexibly from home and the office to suit your work life balance and the needs of the service. Ideally, the successful candidate would hold a recognised construction qualification, be working towards, or have membership of a professional body such as the RICS, CABE or CIOB.

Senior Building Control Surveyor

Salary: £37,944 - £43,487 incl. London weighting and 15% market premium, plus dangerous structure stand-by allowance (approx £1,400 p.a.) and essential user lump sum and mileage

Allerdale Borough Council

Building Control Manager, Full Time

Salary: Grade P, from £38,237 up to £45,000

Allerdale is a great place to live, work and visit.

A borough of great contrast, it comprises three distinct areas. There is the urban triangle of Cockermouth, Maryport and Workington, where most of the population is based. There are also the dispersed hill farms, forests, mountains and lakes of the Lake District National Park and the rural and fertile Solway Plain, which stretches north towards Carlisle.

The post holder role is responsible for the strategic development and organization of the Building Control Service and will lead to the efficient and effective establishment and running of a business. This challenging and exciting new role will help the service move forward with an external facing customer focus and an eye for developing new markets.

You will be a corporate member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors or Chartered Association of Building Engineers or similar. City of Wolverhampton Council

District Building Surveyor 

Salary:£27,668 - £31,601

The city of Wolverhampton is now amongst the top 10 economic growth areas in the UK, thanks to more than £3.7 billion worth of investment on site or planned.

The city has already seen rapid developments with major projects like i54, The Way Youth Zone and i10 and more exciting developments are planned for the west side of the city.

We are looking to appoint a District Building Control officer with excellent communication skills and a pro active approach to problem solving to help deliver a first class service to all our customers.

If you want to join our friendly team you should hold a HNC/HND in Building Studies and have previous experience in building control work. You should also be willing to undertake further training as necessary. Ideally, you should have experience in all aspects of Building Control work with a proven track record of determining Building Regulation applications.

Assistant Building Control Surveyor

Salary: £25,951 - £30,153

This is a rare opportunity to join our Building Control team who are responsible for ensuring that building work in the City is carried out to minimum standards of safety, accessibility and sustainability.

As part of the team you will be responsible for ensuring that building work is carried out to meet Building Regulations standards and that existing structures in the City are maintained in a safe condition. The team aim to deliver a customer focussed service in a competitive market.

You will have excellent experience and knowledge of the construction industry and preferably have an HNC or equivalent level of qualification. You should have excellent customer skills with the abilty to convey complex technical matters in a clear manner to service users at all levels.

The position is an important part of ensuring that building work meets technical standards.

Senior Building Control Surveyor

Salary: £44,496 - £53,088

Westminster is looking to recruit an experienced building control surveyor to fill a Senior Building Control Surveyor post in the Building Control team.

Westminster houses the seat of government and the crown along with London’s key locations.

Based in the West End, this is a high profile and challenging position so the successful individual will need to demonstrate their ability to fulfil the following:

  • Being responsible for a geographical area, to give advice to the public on building control matters, to process applications under Building Regulations and to carry out inspections to achieve compliance. Make initial assessments of reported dangerous structures.
  • Help to maximise income through the development of Partnerships and building control activities. Develop and build up customer relationships and ensure customers are provided with a professional service ensuring that the Building Regulations are satisfied.
  • Support the development and implementation of an innovative, growth focused commercial strategy focusing on existing business and emerging markets. Ensuring that business growth is accelerated and commercial success is achieved.
  • Deputise for the Head of Building Control in their absence, when required.
  • Support and develop more junior members of the Building Control Team. Develop and maintain an expertise in a specialist subject.

Private Housing Officer

Salary: £27,006 - £30,006 p.a. and car cash allowance

Based Hailsham, East Sussex

We have an opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our busy Private Housing Team. The team delivers a high quality customer orientated service that covers a wide variety of activities related to the repair, renovation and improvement of local housing stock, including disabled adaptions in the council’s own housing stock.

The section deals with all aspects of private sector housing, including Disabled Facilities Grants, minimum standards in rented accommodation, houses in multiple occupation, energy efficiency, residential caravans and empty homes. The team currently has a high demand for Disabled Facilities Grants therefore the post holder will primarily help deliver the Financial Assistance Policy but will also be expected to be involved in a range of housing inspections and enforcement work.

You will have an HND in Building Surveying/Building Studies (or equivalent), or you will be a qualified Environmental Health Practitioner. You will be used to surveying and carrying out inspections to dwellings, able to prepare schedules of work, have knowledge and experience of current private sector housing legislation and guidance, be able to advise on improvements and have experience of administering improvement grant/loan schemes including disabled facilities grants. You will ideally have full Housing, Health & Safety Rating System (HHSRS) certification.

You will need to possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and be able to demonstrate the ability to maintain clear and accurate records.
