EcoTherm Eco-Cavity Full Fill is the latest insulation product to become LABC Registered.

It’s a fibre free rigid polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation core with aluminium foil composite facing on both sides. The tongue and groove edges ensure a continuous layer of insulation which increases protection from wind-driven rain and also aids installation.

Intended for use as full fill thermal insulation in new domestic and non-domestic buildings it’s available in thicknesses from 50mm to 150mm and has a thermal conductivity (lambda / λ value) of 0.022W/mK.

It’s designed to leave a 10mm residual cavity in new external masonry cavity walls up to 25 metres in height in domestic and non-domestic buildings. Additional requirements will apply where buildings exceed 12 metres in height.

EcoTherm Eco-Cavity Full Fill is effective in reducing the thermal transmittance (U value) of external cavity walls with masonry inner and outer leaves, including clay and calcium silicate bricks, concrete blocks, and natural and reconstituted stone blocks.

Remember, a fully filled cavity is not recommended in some parts of the country due to the severity of driving rain, so it’s essential that the design and construction is in line with the relevant sections of Agrément Certificate 14/5157 to prevent any moisture penetration.

This specialist cavity wall product works at an optimum performance, with precision straight edges to ensure gaps between boards are kept to a minimum. The quality and accuracy of the brickwork and blockwork are vital to ensure that there’s a 10mm clear space in the 100mm cavity.

The boards should never be pushed into a cavity, the inner leaf should always be constructed ahead of the outer leaf so that mortar can be cleaned off the back of the inner leaf before installing.

Building control surveyors and our business partners, LABC Warranty will also check this as work proceeds to ensure mortar snots, spacer placement and inaccurate bricklaying don’t bridge the remaining cavity ensuring that the wall performs as it’s designed to.

With care and skill a high performance solution can be achieved that keeps the householder warm and cosy and reduces energy costs.
