The Pride of London – City of London LABC and the Bloomberg European Headquarters

Case study
Interior of the Bloomberg

City of London building control department are very proud to have worked with Norman Foster and Partners Architects, Sir Robert MacAlpine Ltd and Stanhope PLC to deliver the multimillion pound Bloomberg HQ - on time- and to a 98.5% BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ level (the highest ever score for an office building development). The completion of one of London’s major projects follows ten years of work for the design team, and 5 years working with City of London's team to deliver one of the finest buildings within the Square Mile.

Covering 3.2 acres, the project produced two buildings linked at a high level to provide 1.1milion square feet of office space and  restaurants at ground level, two new public squares, an new entrance to the Underground, 4 basement levels -  as well as the relocation of a Roman Temple dedicated to the God Mirthras, back to its original site.  All parts of the building are fully accessible to wheelchairs - including the entrance, lecture theatres, desk area, TV studios, training rooms, and medical centre right through to the two storey temple exhibition area where the ancient ruins of Mithras have been rebuilt.

Innovative ideas for power generation and water/energy efficiency, as well as extensive pre-application meetings between the architects, services engineers and the building control department has produced an exemplar of sustainable design, coupled with the highest levels of materials and craftsmanship.  Constant dialogue between teams, along with regular site inspections and visits to testing centres ensured the smooth progress of this complex project to ensure the completion dates of November 2017 were met.

Congratulations to the whole project team.
