Simon Nix, LABC Grand Finals winner

Simon Nix from Redrow Homes was awarded the title of LABC Residential Construction Professional of the Year at the Grand Finals of the LABC Building Excellence Awards – one of the most recognised events on the building industry’s calendar. He was nominated by the local authority building control team from Chorley Council.

A panel of industry experts judged a list of the highest quality projects and professionals from around England and Wales to reward the best in technical innovation, sustainability and design.

Simon, an experienced Site Manager said "I believe the key to being a good Site Manager is having an excellent team: quality tradesmen are the difference between a top quality site and an average site. I hold weekly meetings with my site team to discuss any issues that we have come across in the past week, and plan the week ahead: communication is key. Good site management means prosperity for all involved: for the company, the site team and ultimately the end user".

LABC Chief Executive Paul Everall said: "It is always a pleasure to recognise individuals that go the extra mile as part of their role.

"My congratulations to Simon, on behalf of everyone at LABC. It’s a testament to his skills and dedication. He is a deserving winner of the Residential Construction Professional of the Year award."

The panel of expert judges said “Simon believes that team working is the key to delivering high quality projects as well as gaining the local communities' trust, by visiting local schools together with Buster Bear, Redrow Homes' mascot. He regularly carries out 'welly walks' which are used to showcase the site in a controlled fashion to show local people what his company are trying to achieve."

The Grand Finals of the LABC Building Excellence Awards took place on Friday 9 November 2018 at the Westminster Park Plaza in London and was hosted by Dead Ringers star, comedian and impressionist Jon Culshaw.

860 building industry professionals including contractors, architects and engineers attended the celebration to find out which projects won across the 15 hotly contested categories.
