We’re looking for someone with an in-depth technical knowledge of the building regulations to join the LABC team.
 
The key tasks of this new post will be:
  • Developing LABC’s registration schemes and other services designed to help improve local authority building control efficiencies, performance and quality of delivery; and improving technical support to both members and customers.   This would include improving and extending LABC’s customer-facing schemes such as: the Partner Authority Scheme; customer registration; Registered Details; Registered Construction Details; and the notifications system.
  • Creating technical guidance for LABC surveyors, clients and other building professionals.
This is an engaging and unusual job that will satisfy anyone who likes building results through their own endeavours.  The post requires a detailed understanding of local authority building control and flawless technical decision-making.  
 
LABC’s technical guidance and research covers everything from domestic extensions to high rise towers; hospitals to new homes; logistics warehouses to schools; stadia to student halls of residence and as such, candidates must have a wide experience of all types and scale of construction.  
 
To join our team you’ll need to be an outward looking communicator with excellent written and presentation skills.  You’ll need a self-motivated desire to achieve outstanding results, have great IT skills and be able to organise the progression of several different projects and tasks at the same time.
 
Easy access to road and rail is essential as the job entails frequent travel to members and customers throughout England & Wales plus regular attendance at LABC’s London office. Overnight stays are a regular occurrence. LABC offers all travel costs, 26 days annual leave together with a pension, life assurance and a private health care scheme following successful completion of a probationary period.

Inspectors – Sports Grounds Safety Authority (SGSA)

Head of Technical and Operational Development 

Starting salary: £45,307​

Location: Based at home

Working arrangement: Full/part-time

These roles require significant travel, weekend and evening work, mainly within the UK but also abroad.

SGSA Inspectors generally work from home, covering a wide geographical area. Successful candidates will work under the supervision of the Chief Inspector and will cover a range of functions which may include taking responsibility for a group of Premier and Football League clubs. They may also be expected to take responsibility for specific policy areas, projects or SGSA contracts including taking a lead on sports other than football. The successful candidates will be expected to travel extensively and work flexibly.

The Inspector’s role involves frequent interaction with key stakeholders such as local authorities, football clubs and other interested parties, with visits to sports grounds on both event and non-event days. They advise and assist clubs and local authorities on a wide range of ground and spectator safety issues. Inspectors may also be required to develop and deliver training on spectator safety related issues.

The role will continue to evolve with the development of the SGSA. Inspectors will be responsible for providing advice and guidance on a wide spectrum of spectator safety issues across a range of sports and as the Authority develops its commercial activity, this will be on both a national and international basis.

About you

You’ll have a degree in building surveying or other relevant discipline and have a corporate membership qualification in Building Control e.g. MRICS/MCABE. Alongside the usual knowledge of Building Regulations we would expect you to uphold our high levels of customer service with a proactive approach to securing future business.

Applicants must have a positive team working attitude and be extremely customer focused and business orientated A good practical understanding of primary building control legislation and enforcement processes and procedures is essential as is experience of safety at sports grounds, licencesing and demolitions.
