CURRENT VACANCIES:

Southern Building Control Partnership

Building Control Surveyors x 5

Salary: £33,112 to £43,749 subject to qualifications and experience, plus £4000 market supplement & a mobility allowance per annum

Location: Oxted & Dorking

We are looking for five people to join our team. Southern Building Control Partnership is a shared service formed of three progressive Local Authority Building Control (LABC) teams based in East Surrey; Mole Valley, Reigate & Banstead and Tandridge. Our aim is to bring together the best of what we do to build resilience for the future and develop our range of services, staff and customer service standards. We have invested heavily in the latest cloud-based technology to enable us to build on our existing success and provide a truly customer-focused, modern service.

This also benefits our staff, enabling them to work more flexibly when plan checking and out on site. We don’t however underestimate the importance of face to face contact and client relationships and our thriving account management (“Partnering”) service is testament to this, giving us the opportunity to work on a much wider range of projects throughout the rest of England and Wales as well as locally.

At this key time for our organisation we are looking for motivated people who are passionate about what they do - wanting to shape their own and our shared service’s future. Our culture is one of hard work but also one of friendly camaraderie, sharing our knowledge and ideas freely.

We are based at two council office hubs in Dorking and Oxted where we all meet regularly to share information, attend training sessions and help in the development of the service. Both hubs are close to the M25 and London but with plenty of beautiful countryside and affordable housing on the doorstep.

About you

As a talented professional you will be looking to develop your career and be prepared to think outside the traditional confines of building control.

Our building control surveyors will be one of the key drivers behind the success of our service and in recognition of the importance of this role the package offered includes an annual £4,000 market supplement. The full remuneration package includes a pension scheme, car allowance, generous annual leave, flexitime and numerous training and development opportunities.

Using the latest cloud-based technology means you can choose to work in a more flexible, agile way as well as from one of our two hubs. You should therefore be confident working independently, including occasional out of hours cover. When not making site visits or attending client meetings getting together with colleagues on a regular basis to share and discuss ideas is still very important.

Our aim is to work electronically, avoiding use of paper, from initial application submission to plan and calculations checking and liaising with agents and consultees to accessing application details. The comprehensive reporting capabilities of our state of the art cloud-based system mean clients are able to check the status of their application at any time. (Don’t worry if you haven’t worked in this way before though as full training will be given.)

You will be managed by one of our two area managers based at our Oxted or Dorking council office hubs and will be carrying out plan checks and site inspections as well as building relationships with clients and offering expert advice to colleagues, third parties and the public.

You should preferably be RICs or CABE qualified or prepared to work towards one of these qualifications and we will actively support and encourage you by providing regular training and professional development opportunities.

If you are looking for an exciting new opportunity to make your mark and work with like-minded colleagues please visit www.southernbcpjobs.co.uk
