The London Borough of Barnet is an ambitious authority with one of the most significant programs of growth in the region. Depending on your qualifications and experiences, we are looking for either a senior or building control surveyor to help us to deliver a high quality Building Control service, if you are pro-active and enthusiastic, then you should apply. This is a full time position.

The ideal candidate will need to demonstrate a proven recent track record and have an in-depth knowledge of all aspects of Building Control and allied legislation with excellent communication and organisational skills, you will be able to plan and coordinate a wide range of short, medium and long term tasks.

The main responsibilities of the post will be plan vetting and site inspections of building work in relation to all types of buildings but in particular high risk complex buildings, enforcement, dangerous structures and demolitions. Good IT skills, accurate record keeping and effective communication skills are essential requirements. A full, clean driving license and use of a car is also essential for business purposes.

All activities will be delivered in accordance with the Building Control Performance Standards 2017 and an LABC accredited Quality Management System.

Reading is an exciting and forward thinking unitary authority with a busy and friendly Building Control Service. The Building Control Service deals with all aspects of the Building Regulations, including the examination of full plans/Building Notice applications, site inspections, dangerous structures, unauthorised and regularisation applications and enforcement duties as and when required. We deal with a wide range of interesting development proposals throughout the town.

You will be a member of the team of Building Inspectors maintaining a caseload of applications for Building Regulations approval, including some complex and challenging projects. You will be expected to proactively seek opportunities to promote our Building Control service and increase market share. You will hold the relationship between the Council and developer in respect of minor/major development proposals, providing an efficient and effective building control service and representing the service on a wide range of projects.

We require an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual, with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, who can demonstrate a capacity and enthusiasm for hard work. You will be required to liaise with members of the public or their agents, so will need to be comfortable working away from the office and confident when dealing with customers. You will be working in a flexible office environment, with the chance to work from home, so will need to have good organisational and administrative skills and an ability to use computers for recording and retrieving information.

The post holder would also be required to join the out of hour's rota for dangerous structures call out for which a monthly payment is made. You must also possess a full current driving license.

About you

We are looking for a highly motivated individual who has some knowledge of all aspects of Building Control and allied legislation, with some experience in Building Control, gained from a range of building regulation submission types.  You will be able to apply your knowledge of building construction to practical situations and have a proven ability to manage and positively progress projects.  Additionally, you will engage with customers, ensuring that complex or difficult matters are explained in a polite and professional way.  You will have the ability to win customers’ trust to ensure they return to use our services again. 

The Job Role

The post holder will be responsible for assisting team members in providing a building control checking service within Rochford District Council. The main responsibilities of the post will be plan vetting, site inspections of building work, enforcement, and administering demolition notices.

Good IT skills, accurate record keeping and effective communication skills are essential requirements.  A full, clean driving licence and use of a car is also essential for business purposes, for which a mileage allowance will be paid.

To apply for this post you must have achieved an educational standard where you have or are working towards achieving qualifications with a large building construction content. You will also need to be willing to continue your studies towards achieving a relevant degree level /professional qualification from the CIOB, RICS or CABE.  Familiarity with quality management systems would be an advantage. 

Starting salary will be determined by qualifications and experience and the post is career graded allowing progression within the scale after reaching measurable competency levels.

Rochford District is an attractive area, with a mix of urban and rural spaces in a tight geographical area.  Rochford is easily accessible with a main line station to London Liverpool Street (50 minutes) and London Southend Airport.

Salary Band 8 £35,590 to £39,457 per annum

The Building and Coastal Service are seeking an experienced Senior Building Control Surveyor to lead and manage the Building Control team. We are looking for someone who is pro-active and enthusiastic, with the desire to take the team forward in the delivery and provision of the building control function across the New Forest District.

The Building Control service is going through a period of change and one of the early key roles will be to develop the team to enable an improved service delivery.
