Central region celebrates award winning construction (2017 details to follow shortly...)
More than 250 people, including contractors, architects, designers and local authority building control surveyors gathered last Friday at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Milton Keynes, to celebrate outstanding construction in the Central region LABC Building Excellence Awards.
Finalists from Berkshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Hertfordshire, Northamptonshire and Oxfordshire attended the awards, which are staged annually to celebrate the design and construction teams that, having tussled with technical issues and difficult sites, found innovative and creative solutions.
LABC Managing Director Phil Hammond hosted the event, which was all about the essence of good buildings, with finalists judged not on architectural beauty, but on the “excellence” shown from a construction and technical building control point of view.
Representatives of LABC sponsors FMB, Home&Build, InstaGroup, Jewson, Polypipe Terrain, TLX, LABC Acoustics and LABC Warranty presented trophies and certificates to the 14 winning and three highly commended projects and individuals. The winners automatically go into the Grand Finals, which will be held on Monday 28 November at the Westminster Park Plaza in London.
Ben Langford, Chair of LABC Central Region, said: “LABC is the largest building control provider in England and Wales and is totally committed to delivering the best building control service to our customers, helping them to achieve compliance with the requirements of the Building Regulations through a positive and pro-active approach. All of those nominated by each local authority are a testament to the great team work undertaken by LABC teams in the Central region, working collaboratively with designers, construction teams and their clients to produce excellent results.”
More than £2,000 was raised for LABC President Jayne Hall’s chosen charity YoungMinds, the UK’s leading charity committed to improving the emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people.
