About LABC

LABC is the membership organisation for all local authority building control teams in England and Wales, representing over 3,000 building inspectors and technical support staff.

Our mission is to continually educate, develop and support our members to deliver high quality, trusted public service building control.

We develop our members through the delivery of a suite of multi award-winning accredited qualifications from level 3 through to 6. Our qualifications are tailored to the unique role of public service building control and are taught by experienced building control practitioners.

Learning is an ongoing requirement for all professionals in the built environment and are pleased to offer a variety of CPD short courses to members and the wider industry, helping professionals keep abreast of industry changes, gain confidence in their roles and navigate the building control process for the projects they’re working on.

For those who prefer to learn in their own time, LABC has developed a tailored Competence Specific Learning (CSL) subscription. First launched to members in April 2024, myLABC delivers CSL relevant to an individual’s role directly to their inbox every month. With a range of learning delivery methods including workshops, quizzes and e-learning; subscribers have a plethora of resources to access at a time that suits them. With unique reporting features for managers, organisations can access learning logs for employees, monitor progress and demonstrate a commitment to continued professional development. If you or your organisation would like to discuss your requirements, please contact the team

With a proven track record in learning delivery, LABC launched the LABC Academy in 2023, recruiting trainees into the building control profession on a structured training programme accompanied by secondment and mentoring in local authorities. To date, an additional 150 trainees have been recruited and are working in the public service building control network, with more in the pipeline.

Representing all local authorities in England and Wales, LABC is committed to supporting its members to provide a high-quality service, dedicated to public safety, quality and compliance. Since DATE, LABC has provided an independently audited Quality Management System (QMS) for public service building control. With over 95% of local authorities signed up, LABC is helping to ensure nationally consistent locally authority services with a QMS tailored to their roles and the differing regulations in England and Wales.

LABC has a wealth of technical expertise with a dedicated Regulatory Specialist team providing guidance on legislative changes and supporting governments and industry groups to implement change to ensure quality and safe buildings for the communities we live and work in.
