Recruitment support for local authorities
LABC has a dedicated website covering careers, training, opportunities and vacancies.
Whether you’re just starting your career or looking to change profession, it can be difficult to decide which route to take. This resource provides insights into what a building control job involves, the skills needed, and what you can expect from your career as a Registered Building Inspector.
In 2023, LABC established the award-winning LABC Academy. Initially using government funding, in response to new responsibilities brought about by the Building Safety Act, LABC established the programme to hire new recruits, employed directly by LABC but working across England and Wales, benefitting from the experience and expertise of our teams in local authorities. We employ people who are technically minded, like problem-solving, are keen to learn, and are looking for a rewarding public service career, not just a job.
We take care of all education and training needs as well as arranging mentoring and supervision. Since 2023 we have appointed over 150 new people into the profession. This programme is perfect for those who don't want student debt, since our trainees earn while they learn.
At the end of the two-year programme, trainees are employed directly by local authorities as Registered Building Inspectors, having gained their level 4 and level 5 diplomas in building control surveying, and working towards Chartership with one of the professional institutions such as CABE, CIOB and RICS.
The LABC careers website also offers a free recruitment service to local authority building control teams in England and Wales, and we'd love you to join us so that we can start promoting your job ads to as wide an audience as possible.
- You'll get the attention of people who hadn’t even thought of building control as a career
- You'll attract new entrants to work as apprentices or trainees
- You'll be able to reach out to those returning to work full or part-time
- You'll broaden your reach on the search engines
- We'll help you promote your recruitment campaigns to back up your local activity
- And we'll help you promote with expert social media campaigns
Even if you don’t have a vacancy at the moment, it’s a good idea to get your account set up so that you’re ready to go when you do. Just email us at careersjobs@labc.co.uk with your council's logo and an email address for the account, and we’ll set you up with your own log-in, and you can start uploading your vacancies straight away. We'll review your ad and publish it within 48 hours.
Please note: The LABC careers website is exclusively for local authority members, and requests for adverts from recruitment agencies cannot be accepted.
