Level 6 CIOB Certificate - SASG and Other Public Events Qualification

How to enrol 

Please be aware of the following steps prior to booking onto the course:  

LABC Members 

  • Step 1 - Register your interest and complete the application form
    Step 2 - The tutor will review and a coordinator will confirm course suitability.  
    Step 3 - The LABC team will issue a funding agreement to be signed and confirm your enrolment on the course. 

NFCC, Blue Light Services and Local Authority Emergency Planning Teams 

  • Step 1 – Email learning@labc.co.uk to request an application form. You will then be sent login details for our Virtual Learning Environment where you will submit your application.  
  • Step 2 - The tutor will review and a coordinator will confirm course suitability  
  • Step 3 - Once course suitability is confirmed you will need to book your place on this webpage. 

Course Details 

The level 6 Safety at Sports Grounds and other Public Events qualification has been designed in partnership with the Sports Grounds Safety Authority. This unique level 6 certificate is aimed at mid-career public officials and other professionals who are involved in regulating public safety at sports grounds and other public events. 

The course is made up of online learning modules, case studies, real-life job role activities and live interactive online lectures delivered by expert guest speakers and facilitated by the course lead. It aims to develop the individual’s ability to appraise the physical structure, undertake inspections, and navigate complex safety issues to ensure compliance with legislation for a range of public entertainment venues. 

The course specifically covers: 

  • The roles and responsibilities of stakeholders in ensuring safety in event management 
  • How to comply with legislation and application in relation to Safety at Sports Grounds and other public events 
  • How to appraise the physical structure of a premise for a range of events 
  • The range of complex dynamic factors that can impact the safety of events 
  • How to be able to make decisions on the suitability of an event

Live interactive workshops and tutor support days will take place one day a week for 13 weeks. For those who are new to safety at sports grounds and other public events - an optional three-week introduction programme will run before the actual course starts. The induction programme covers: 

  • Summary of new guidance 
  • Safety at Sports Grounds Day 1 and Day 2 
  • Annex A Sample indicative questions relating to (P) factors 
  • Annex B Sample indicative questions relating to (S) factors 
  • Public Events Day 1: A walk through 

All learning, lectures and assignments will take place via distance learning on the LABC Virtual Learning Environment. 

  • Tutor Led Learning: Online interactive lectures with facilitated activities. We recommend that you attend all lectures but understand that this isn't always possible. All lectures will be recorded and made available to those students who are not able to attend. So, if you miss them, you can always catch up later at a more convenient time / day. 
  • Self-directed study: Required on top of lectures which should include e-learning, researching, studying, working on the assignment. 
  • Assessment: Participants are required to complete an online assignment that is assessed on a pass/merit/distinction/fail criterion.  
  • Support: Participants will be supported throughout the course by the Learning and Development Specialist and Course Coordinator.  

Who should apply? 

  • Public officials and other professionals who have responsibility for regulating public safety at sports ground and other public events. E.g. Fire Officers, Building Control, Environmental Health, police, Fire Services, Trading Standard, Emergency planning officers.

  • £2590 for industry professionals (please note a discount is offered to those working in blue light services, local authority emergency planning teams or within NFCC. Please email learning@labc.co.uk for further information)
