Press Release

Building excellence throughout the construction industry has been celebrated at the LABC Grand Finals 2025.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards have long been established as the premier accolades within the industry; recognising the companies and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to competence, quality and standards in delivering safe and sustainable buildings for the communities we live and work in.

Over 800 individuals from across England and Wales, came together on 23 January 2026, showcasing the amazing people and projects working in our industry.

Lorna Stimpson, CEO at LABC, said:

“True excellence is based on a demonstrable commitment to competence, quality and standards, which are the foundations of our awards.”

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of the Best Non-residential Extension, Alteration or Conversion is Eagle Brow, Cheshire.

The transformation of the former bank in Lymm has revitalised a key part of the village, converting a long-vacant 1970s building into four commercial units that blend seamlessly with the conservation area. Careful historic research informed the design, enabling the introduction of a traditional concave mansard roof and authentic detailing that restored the building’s character. This sensitive approach, combined with community engagement throughout the process, ensured the scheme not only met technical requirements but also gained strong local support, bringing new life and economic activity to the heart of Lymm.

The Warrington Borough Council building control team worked closely with the contractor and architect to overcome challenges such as maintaining pedestrian access during construction and achieving level access for all units despite the site’s sloping topography. Early collaboration at pre-application stage allowed for compliant solutions, including inclusive layouts and accessible WCs, while innovative site management strategies ensured safety and minimal disruption to village life. The result is a high-quality, historically sympathetic development that exceeds building regulations and delivers lasting benefits for the local community.

The judges commended how the project for its,

“in depth historic research of how the building used to look allowed for design and technical drawings to be developed to bring this successful scheme forward. Working closely with the community and building control team, developers were sensitive to the local conservation area throughout the build of the project; minimising disruption to the community and turning a vacant building into a mixed-use commercial scheme.”

A range of categories celebrated on the night highlight the diverse portfolio of projects delivered within the industry alongside the project teams that are committed to delivering compliant and high-quality buildings for our communities.
