LABC Building Excellence Awards 2025 winner: Best Non-residential New Build
Building excellence throughout the construction industry has been celebrated at the LABC Grand Finals 2025.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards have long been established as the premier accolades within the industry; recognising the companies and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to competence, quality and standards in delivering safe and sustainable buildings for the communities we live and work in.
Over 800 individuals from across England and Wales, came together on 23 January 2026, showcasing the amazing people and projects working in our industry.
Lorna Stimpson, CEO at LABC, said:
“True excellence is based on a demonstrable commitment to competence, quality and standards, which are the foundations of our awards.”
LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of the Best Non-residential New Build is Pixash Lane Recycling Centre, Somerset.
The redevelopment of Pixash Lane in Keynsham has created a modern, multi-purpose facility that brings together a public recycling centre, material recovery and waste transfer stations, bulky waste handling, vehicle fleet storage and maintenance, a public MOT centre, and dedicated areas for parks and highways services. Designed to consolidate essential operations on a single site, the project balances complex functional requirements with its sensitive location near the Cotswolds AONB, delivering a high-quality, sustainable solution for the community.
The Bath & North East Somerset Council building controll team worked closely with the contractor from early design through completion, ensuring compliance and smooth delivery. Regular site inspections and collaborative problem-solving addressed challenges such as revising escape strategies, managing ecological impacts, and resolving unknown services without disruption. Exceeding minimum standards, the development incorporates extensive solar PV arrays across its main buildings, significantly reducing energy use and setting a benchmark for sustainable industrial design.
The judges commended the project for how it has,
“balanced complex functional requirements with its sensitive location near the Cotswolds area of outstanding natural beauty delivering a high-quality, sustainable solution for the community.”
A range of categories celebrated on the night highlight the diverse portfolio of projects delivered within the industry alongside the project teams that are committed to delivering compliant and high-quality buildings for our communities.
