LABC Building Excellence Awards 2025 winner: Best Residential & Small Commercial Designer

Press Release

Building excellence throughout the construction industry has been celebrated at the LABC Grand Finals 2025.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards have long been established as the premier accolades within the industry; recognising the companies and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to competence, quality and standards in delivering safe and sustainable buildings for the communities we live and work in.

Over 800 individuals from across England and Wales, came together on 23 January 2026, showcasing the amazing people and projects working in our industry.

Lorna Stimpson, CEO at LABC, said:

“True excellence is based on a demonstrable commitment to competence, quality and standards, which are the foundations of our awards.”

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of the Best Residential & Small Commercial Designer is Matt Noades, Noades Architects.

Matt Noades, Director of Noades Architects, brings nearly three decades of experience to a wide range of projects, from heritage building conversions to bespoke residential schemes. A registered architect with ARB and RIBA, Matt also holds Passive House Designer certification, reflecting his commitment to sustainable, energy-efficient design. Since founding Noades Architects in 2016, he has led his team in delivering creative, practical solutions that balance client aspirations with regulatory compliance. His approach ensures projects run smoothly, with inspections and approvals integrated seamlessly into the design process.

Matt works closely with Hertfordshire Building Control, engaging early to clarify requirements and resolve challenges before they impact delivery. His proactive communication and collaborative attitude have helped overcome complex issues, such as fire protection detailing near boundaries and integrating advanced building services within tight spaces. By embracing industry changes, including the Building Safety Act and Part L updates, Matt ensures his projects meet the highest standards while maintaining design integrity.

The judges praised Matt for his outstanding approach to design and compliance.

“This was an exceptional application. The company invests in professional development and is committed to sustainable design to Passive House Certification.”

A range of categories celebrated on the night highlight the diverse portfolio of projects delivered within the industry alongside the project teams that are committed to delivering compliant and high-quality buildings for our communities.
