LABC and Construction Youth Trust partnering in 2020 for #BuildingAspirations campaign

Young people learning - Construction Youth Trust

The #BuildingAspirations campaign aims to encourage volunteers from the construction and built environment industry to reach out to young people and inspire them about the world of work.

Employer contact at school reduces the likelihood of young people becoming NEET (not in education, employment or further training). Young adults who remembered 'four or more employer contacts' are five times less likely to be NEET than those who had no involvement.

The #BuildingAspirations campaign will see Construction Youth Trust facilitate 5,000 meaningful employer encounters between industry volunteers and young people from diverse backgrounds. These encounters can include career insights, mentoring, work tasters, work experience and more.

LABC and this year's President Anthony Oloyede (Construction Youth Trust are his chosen charity) are passionate about welcoming the next generation to careers in the building sector but understand it's extremely difficult for young people to aspire to a career and industry they've never seen themselves represented in.

"Through the campaign, the Trust and LABC want to encourage a diverse range of industry professionals to share their experiences of building aspirations. By connecting young people to relatable role models the hope is that the negative preconceptions and stereotypes surrounding industry careers will be replaced with a more modern, accurate image; an inclusive and diverse industry. This can only be done by industry professionals reaching out to the next generation."
Anthony Oloyede, LABC President and Carol Lynch, Chief Executive of Construction Youth Trust
