LABC Building Excellence Awards 2025 winner: Best Residential Extension

Building excellence throughout the construction industry has been celebrated at the LABC Grand Finals 2025.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards have long been established as the premier accolades within the industry; recognising the companies and individuals that demonstrate a commitment to competence, quality and standards in delivering safe and sustainable buildings for the communities we live and work in.

Over 800 individuals from across England and Wales, came together on 23 January 2026, showcasing the amazing people and projects working in our industry.

Lorna Stimpson, CEO at LABC, said:

“True excellence is based on a demonstrable commitment to competence, quality and standards, which are the foundations of our awards.”

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of the Best Residential Extension is Claydon Farm House, Gloucestershire.

The transformation of Claydon Farm House in Gloucestershire has turned a traditional farmhouse and its outbuildings into a connected family home; including a side extension, link extension, detached garage, and conversion of the existing garage with a first-floor addition.

The building control team at Cotswold District Council worked closely with the site team to ensure compliance and overcome technical challenges. These included integrating large glazing panels with the oak frame extension while allowing for movement and managing adverse ground conditions caused by heavy rainfall through careful planning and logistics. Clear communication, regular inspections, and proactive problem-solving ensured the project was delivered on time and within budget, resulting in a high-quality, sustainable home that respects its heritage setting.

The judges described Canal View as “a unique example of collaboration between a conscientious architectural team and an owner who shared a vision.

”They acknowledged the conversion of a disused cattle barn into a family home that “enhances the property against the backdrop of the stunning landscape through a feature glazed gable.” They also noted that “the focus on accessibility for all really shone through.”

A range of categories celebrated on the night highlight the diverse portfolio of projects delivered within the industry alongside the project teams that are committed to delivering compliant and high-quality buildings for our communities.
