LABC Building Excellence Awards 2025 winner: Best Small New Housing Development

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of the Best Small New Housing Development is The Lookout, Cornwall.

The Lookout is a striking development of five eco-retreats on the Cornish coast, designed to blend with the landscape of Widemouth Bay. Each cottage offers panoramic sea views, bespoke interiors, and private outdoor spaces. Green roofs, locally sourced materials, and advanced energy-efficient technologies, including solar PV panels and air-source heat pumps highlight the project’s strong environmental ethos.

Close collaboration between the site team and the Cornwall Council Building Control team was essential to deliver this complex, bespoke project within a tight programme. A joint approach to problem-solving allowed smooth resolution of technical challenges, such as fire integrity between adjoining balconies, and ensured the project was completed to a high standard on schedule.

The judges described The Lookout as a project,

“combining thoughtful design, energy conscious living and a lifestyle tailored to the needs of older homeowners, seamlessly into a vibrant and strong local community.” 

A range of categories celebrated on the night highlight the diverse portfolio of projects delivered within the industry alongside the project teams that are committed to delivering compliant and high-quality buildings for our communities.
