The City hosts the LABC London Building Excellence Awards 2019
The LABC London Building Excellence Awards took place at the Guildhall Great Hall on Friday 10 May 2019. The historic venue was buzzing with over 400 guests attending from across the industry including: Mulalley & Co. Ltd, Willmott Dixon Construction, Kier Construction Ltd, Paul Simon Homes, Wates and Berkeley Homes.
The LABC Building Excellence Awards showcase buildings and design teams that have come up against complex technical or construction issues and building constraints. The awards also celebrate their successful innovative and creative solutions.
"These awards are different. They aren’t about good looks or fancy design (although many winners incorporate both). They are about quality and standards. No other building awards look at how well buildings are put together from start to finish and the skills and competencies of those who design and construct them. We are very proud of everyone involved – they show the way ahead for the industry."Paul Everall CBE, Chief Executive at LABC
The event was presented by LABC's Managing Director Phil Hammond, and Comedian Tony Cowards entertained the guests after the awards dinner. And in total there were 15 winners and five highly commended entries – see all of the award-winners here.
Winning projects included the Alexandra Palace Theatre (Best Small Commercial Project, pictured below), Coal Drops Yard in Kings Cross, Camden (Best Change of Use of an Existing Building or Conversion) and the McGrath Road Redevelopment in Newham (Best Social or Affordable New Housing Development).
Fundraising was for We Build the Future, LABC President Dave Sharp's chosen charity. Their aim is to unite the construction industry to beat cancer sooner and save lives. Thanks to all the guests' generous donations, we raised over £2,000!
