Guy Cooper at seat with the RNLI

Recently RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) volunteer crew Guy Cooper, Head of Building Control at Plymouth City Council, hung up his yellow wellies and switched off his pager after 14 years of dedicated service to his local community with Looe RNLI. Everyone who knows Guy will also know that he always gives 110% and his enthusiasm and comradeship will be missed by all at the station.

Guy is maintaining his links with the RNLI through their Education team and fundraising events such as The famous Looe New Years Day dip. He says: "After 14 years being part of the Looe lifeboat crew, it comes with mixed feelings that today I've handed my pager back and am no longer operational crew (although I've been winding down this past year). I'm getting on a bit now, there are lots of good (and younger) lads joined this last year or so and above all, want to spend all the time I can with my children before they grow up.

"Over this long period of time I've experienced some amazing things, some not so amazing things, been in very frightening situations (even though I'm not scared of anything) but have been fortunate enough to meet so many interesting characters from all walks of life from all round the country.

"Being in the very first national flood rescue team that was set up after Boscastle was probably one of the most amazing and rewarding things I've done in my whole life and rescuing people from in their own homes is very surreal indeed. Thank you to everyone who supports the RNLI... Please respect the water... and ... OUT."
