LABC Building Excellence Awards 2023 winner: Best Small Social Housing Development

Press Release
Hen Orsaf, Gwynedd

More than 900 leading construction industry figures attended the LABC Building Excellence Awards at The Grosvenor House Hotel, London to celebrate best practice, quality, and exemplary standards in construction.

The LABC Building Excellence Awards focus on professional skills and competence, as well as exemplar projects with categories for ‘People’ and ‘Places.’

A panel of industry experts judged a selection of the highest quality projects, professionals, and teams from around England and Wales to showcase solutions to complex technical or construction issues, site constraints and technical innovation. The awards highlight the vital contribution public sector building control teams make as part of the project team, ensuring safe, sustainable, and high-quality construction projects.

LABC is delighted to announce that the WINNER of Best Small Social Housing Development is Hen Orsaf, Gwynedd.

Set in the county of Gwynedd, North-West of Wales, the Hen Orsaf housing project showcases an exemplary design and build initiative with the highest level of collaborative working. Utilising innovative design solutions and superior construction practices, the project revitalised a redundant brownfield site, creating 17 high-quality affordable homes, including 5 bungalows and 12 houses, available for rent by local residents.

The LABC public service building control team at Gwynedd Council have worked tirelessly to mitigate project delays and ensure that the project was complete and homes were available at the earliest opportunity. This included regular site meetings to discuss and agree on adjustments and to ensure full compliance with Building Control requirements. Through this process, the project team fostered trusting relationships with Gwynedd Council. It is these relationships that facilitated the prompt availability of the much-improved home environment for the residents.

Congratulating the whole team on their success, Lorna Stimpson, LABC Chief Executive said:

"I firmly believe that one of the best ways to see more good work is to praise building excellence and publicly acknowledge companies, designers, site managers and tradespeople who go that extra mile."
