LABC launches virtual learning hub as part of competency validation drive

LABC has launched a virtual learning hub for its 3,500 surveyors and technical staff aimed at making it easier for them to take part in training, personal development and improve and evidence their competencies.

The online platform contains all the A – Z courses a surveyor will need to develop themselves throughout their entire career in building control – almost! From ‘Agile working’ all the way through to ‘Working at height’.

The platform provides over 100 courses at the click of a button and apart from the formal accredited qualifications, all of these courses are free of charge. The system automatically tracks an individual’s learning, books training courses and updates personal development plans. 

The new platform has been developed to support LABC’s continued investment in standards and competencies. This has included the introduction of an ISO backed quality management system and a new fire safety validation assessment (in association with the Institution of Fire Engineers) for its most experienced and competent surveyors.

Commenting, LABC’s Deputy Managing Director, Lorna Stimpson, said, “LABC is committed to the highest standards and we’re constantly seeking ways to measure the competency of our surveyors and make it easy for those in public service building control to develop their skills.  This new platform provides dozens of courses available on line – all tailored to each level of surveying staff –with many more in development.

“The initial feedback we’re getting from users is extremely positive and I’m confident because of its ease of use and the quality of the learning, we’ll see a very positive uptake from our building control teams leading to even greater confidence in public service building control.”
