He was a tireless advocate for social justice, and those who strive to make the built environment safer.
Andrew’s dedication to public service and his efforts to improve the lives of the less fortunate have been an inspiration to many as he worked with others to pave the way for systemic changes that will benefit future generations.
In more recent times he helped shape the Building Safety Act.

• 30 new places after 2,000 apply to join LABC’s trainee academy

A training scheme for building inspectors, which has attracted nearly 2,000 applicants so far, is launching its fourth recruitment drive.
There are 30 places available in the latest cohort of LABC’s (Local Authority Building Control) Academy, with trainees starting work in local authorities across England from June 2024.
As part of our ongoing constructive dialogue with government departments and the HSE, LABC sent a letter to the Building Safety Regulator (BSR), the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) and the Welsh Government on 2 February 2024.

Wales has taken a major step forward in ensuring the future safety of its homes and buildings by funding four trainee inspectors.
The £350,630 grant matches funds provided by Local Authority Building Control (LABC), meaning that the country will benefit from eight new inspectors once they are fully qualified.
Wales is introducing a new regulatory regime from April next year under which building inspectors and approvers will have to register to continue working in the building control profession.
