LABC’s President for 2022 is Heather Jones, Head of 3C Building Control in Cambridgeshire. She formally took over from Anthony Oloyede, who ended his pandemic impacted two-year stint at the end of December.

At her first major presidential engagement – the LABC Building Excellence Awards on 28 January – she announced her presidential charity would be Young Minds – the UK’s leading charity fighting for children and young people's mental health. 

With £3,500 being raised for the charity on the night Heather’s fundraising got off to a flying start.

The way we live and interact with spaces has constantly evolved as our needs, priorities and lifestyles have changed. Housing design and layout is less likely to fit standard conventions and expected patterns as it adapts to our needs. Over 2 days, 15 Guest speakers, 40 exhibitor representatives, 50 online delegates and 250 in person made the 2021 LABC conference one of the most successful ever. With the 2020 event being cancelled due to the covid pandemic this was the first time in more than 18 months that public service building control could come together to discuss the profession and the changes taking place to the whole construction industry.

An important design consideration for new houses, flats or dwellings attached to one another is how to resist sound from travelling between them. Regulation 41 requires the sound performance of separating walls or floors to be demonstrated by pre-completion testing or by using design details published by Robust Details Ltd.
